Week 5

We've had a fun and colorful week in kindergarten.  Not only did we wear a new color each day, we learned color songs and we read books about each color. Let's show you what we've been up to this week.

We started off the week with red day. Thanks for your help, parents, in dressing your child each day in the appropriate color.

We read these books about the color red.

The next day was blue day.

These are the blue books that we read.

Next was yellow day.

And these were the yellow books that we enjoyed.

We followed up with green day.

These are the green books we read.

And finally, we had orange day to end this week.

And we enjoyed these orange books.

We are nearing the end of the alphabet as the students have been introduced to a letter a day. We will then go back over each letter in more depth. These are the letters we learned this week.

We had a lot of fun with our focus book this week. It was a silly story.

Here are the vocabulary words from the story.

We came up with plans to get the hogs cleaned with our turn and talk partners.

We ended our discussion with a fun craft.

Our sight word this week was "like".

We worked on this word during our guided reading time with Mrs. Langham.

And we were introduced to rhyming bean bags.

Some of us had fun sorting colors and color words during word work.

I hadn't shared any recess photos with you yet, so I thought I would capture a typical day.

We said goodbye to our sweet music teacher, Mrs. Alligrant.

In math this week, we took a closer look at the number 3.

We continued to work on combinations of the numbers 2 and 3.

We practiced representing sets by painting ten frames.

We got to check out library books again. Thanks to everyone for returning their library books. Remember to return them for library day each Tuesday.

In science, we continued to learn about the five senses. We learned about the sense of smell and sorted good and bad smells in our science journal.

We read about hearing.

We took a listening walk and marked the sounds that we heard during the walk.

We learned about the sense of touch.

And we drew different items that we could touch based on their description.

I did save the best for last (or in the mind's of the class it was the best). We finally got to go to Hill Harbor! It was so much fun!

Don't forget to wear your colors next week too!
