Week 19

We had a short week and I was out a day and a half (testing for mid year), so I do not have very many pictures this week. Here is a look at our learning this week.

We read about Tacky the Penguin. We read several versions of this story. We focused on predicting, retelling and inferring with this book.

We compared the characters in the story using a Venn diagram.

We even made our own Tacky the Penguins.

We worked on short vowels this week and also on the long o using the /oa/. We also worked on the "it" word family. Our sight words this week were "are" and "now".

We learned a fun snowman song too.

Our close read this week was Ron's Big Mission.

Here are the vocabulary words from the story.

We also learned about Rosa Parks.

In science, we talked about some other Arctic animals. This week, we learned about the walrus.

We learned that Arctic animals have blubber to help keep them warm. We made a blubber bag to show us how this works.

It is always neat when learning is extended outside of the classroom. Arianna brought in pictures of penguins and a book about them. She shared her experience with the class.
